What plans are you making as we embark on a new year? Do have a framework for approaching the year or do you just fly by the seat of your pants?
This year is going to involve coming and going, buying and selling, working and resting, gaining and losing, fulfilling old dreams and making new ones, success and failure. You are going to make critical decisions this year, some of which will have life-changing results.
Life is unpredictable. People and places come and go in our lives. How can we possibly make plans when life is so unpredictable?
We all want to make good decisions and wise choices for our lives but how can we do that in an unpredictable fragile world where we don’t know what lies around the corner?
As a new year begins we have the opportunity to seek God’s plans and purposes for our lives, which in turn brings security.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
God says that He knows the plans He has for us. We may not know what is in store for us this year but God does, and He has made plans for us in it.
Have you ever felt that your life is a little mundane and meaningless? I have had seasons where I am wondering what I am even doing here. I have felt that I am not adding to life and that I am not doing anything significant at all. Yet, God clearly says He has purposes for us. Even in the mundane God is forging purpose through our lives.
I am always amazed and humbled when people come up to me and say that one of my posts or a message I have preached has been significant to them. The truth is, sometimes I question if what I’m saying makes a difference at all?
God has purposes and plans for our lives and all we need to do is lay down our agenda and follow His. In doing so we gain meaning for our own life and infuse meaning into other people’s lives as well.
James 4:13-17 Is a warning for us not to make our own plans but to live by the purposes and plans of God because we do not know what is around the corner and the best way for us to navigate the uncertainty is with God.
How often do we make plans without even considering God? Yet we still ask Him to bless those plans? We often question Him as to why our own plans have not worked out the way we hoped and blame Him for the result. Yet the truth is that we have made our own plans in line with what we want and we expect God to step in line with us!
I wonder what God wants to do in your life this year? Is this year going to be reflective of your desires and passions or is it going to reflect the purposes and plans of God?
I have noticed that God knows a lot more than we do.
Surrendering our desires to His purposes and plans gives us the opportunity to navigate the unpredictability of life with the certainty of God.
How are you going to include God in your plans for this year?
Lord,
It is so exciting to journey through this year with You. I don’t know what this year will bring but what I know with certainty is that You are right beside me helping me all the way. Thank You in advance for the good plans You have for me.
Amen
