Have you ever felt powerless? Have you ever felt that satan seems to have the upper hand in your life?
Sometimes we feel powerless. We feel that we have no authority and we are afraid to take ground in enemy territory. We feel like the war is hopeless.
But this is the deception of all deceptions. The thought that we are powerless and have no authority is the biggest lie satan uses to intimidate us.
We have authority and can live a life of victory over enemy lines. More than that we can take the territory the enemy has gained away.
The other day I played laser tag with my family. During one particular game, my son was getting very frustrated because our team was retreating back. He kept yelling at us that we had the power and needed to advance into the enemy lines.
I know it was only a game but the thought of advancing into enemy territory was an outrageous decision to me. Even though we were in control and had the upper hand I was afraid to push forward and take more ground.
This scenario reminded me of our lives as Christians. Jesus has given us the victory and authority on this earth has been given to us. Yet how many of us are retreating back rather than advancing forward in the spiritual battle before us?
Are there areas in your life that the enemy controls?
It may be a relationship or an addiction or areas of repeated sin.
In John 10:10 Jesus describes satan as a thief whose purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. His prime objective is to deceive us into believing we are powerless.
However, James 4:7 tells us to resist the devil and he will flee.
When we call satan out on his deception and bring his lies out into the light he has nowhere to hide. The power he once had over us is gone!
God has equipped us for battle Ephesians 6:10-18 and has given us authority 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 to have victory over the enemies schemes and plans. The key is in us realising this and living it out.
We don’t need to be afraid of the enemy’s plans but advance in spite of them because Christ is by our side.
Christ has given us the victory: we just need to believe it.
Like my son, God is calling us to understand the power and authority we have. He is not calling us to retreat but rather advance forward and take enemy territory.
If you have felt that you are powerless and that satan is having a field day in your life right now, I call you, “stand up child of the most high God”. Declare this far satan and no more. Claim back what has been stolen and call forth God’s purposes and plans for your life and the lives of your family. Resist the devil and he will indeed flee because the victory is yours in Christ Jesus.
Lord,
Please show me what areas in my life I have allowed satan to gain ground. Lord, please help me to not shrink away in fear but stand tall in the authority you have given me through Christ Jesus to take ground.
Amen.
